The purpose of this blog is to share a journey -- a journey of two teachers -- Tyrone Santiago of CECR Escola Parque in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil and Cathy McDonald of Lovejoy Technology Academy in Brooklyn, IL, USA -- who want their kids to connect intellectually, socially, and culturally. Two separate classrooms on different continents merged to become one group who share their cultures, their ideas, their hopes and their dreams and their fears.

You have seen our e-mails referring to a TappedIn Perspective. We were requested by the TappedIn staff to write a perspective about our project and our use of TappedIn.Later our thoughts and ideas would be presented to staff at NECC 2009 in Washington DC as plans are being made for an expo next April. We hope to see many countries represented in this event.
Sharing with you, the teachers through this blog…
Both of us agree that global collaboration adds an irresistible audience for our students. The rewards to us as teachers are incredible. Our role as teachers is to model the behavior we want from our students. As they see us communicate with each other, as they observe the way we deal with problems that arise, as they see us struggle with new technologies, we model for the students how to learn, how to relate to other people, and how to problem-solve.Because there is a result they too are seeking, they join in to participate in the process. We as teachers are not only dispensers of information. We are models, motivators, and facilitators. The kids are the ones who are in charge of their learning – and often they think they are just having fun.Yes!!!
